Only we can't call them the "Thailand Girls" anymore! They moved from Thailand back to NC the same time we did. We wish that they were able to move back to New Bern, but their dad found a job pastoring a church in Charlotte, so they aren't real close, but it's only a few hours to get to them now. Laura came by to visit with the girls just after Labor Day. They were vacationing at the beach near here with Ryan's parents over the holiday weekend. Unfortunately, Ryan had to go back and get to work, but we were ever so grateful that he let his flock of chicks come hang out with us for a bit. The six kids always get along great and Laura and I are quite happy passing away the hours chatting.
37th St. Pizza is only the BEST pizza shop in the area.
Laura indirectly introduced me to the restaurant the last time we lived here. The calzones are SOOOO good! I've never had better.

This is what happens when you try to eat your breakfast severely outnumbered by XX's. You get beautified. Then photographed. He's such a good sport too. I think you really have to know him to see the threat of bodily injury behind those smoldering blue eyes. ;)
Like every visit with the Ashlocks, this one went too quickly. I enjoyed my early morning walks with Laura the most. There's nothing like some quiet time with a good friend to motivate you to get up early every morning and tour your neighborhood in 100% humidity. We would talk the whole way and then save topics, picking up where we left off the next day. Laura has always been a wonderful friend, but on this particular trip, she proved how truly thoughtful she really is. I woke up one day with a little sinus pressure that by the next day was a full blown, pain to the point you can't think sinus problem. She walked with me that morning to help me keep my mind off of it while I waited for the insurance company to call and give me permission to be seen, TOLD me to go take a shower and get ready to go to the Urgi-center when my brain wasn't functioning because of how badly my face hurt AND not only got the kids their breakfast, but had a breakfast waiting on the island for me to eat before I left. Oh, and then she endured the rest of the trip with me on pain killers and steroids, both of which put me in a mental fog without one word of complaint.
I love my friend!
(Btw, notice Madeline's shirt? It's one that got a little small for Amelia, so we passed it on to her. We thought it would be pretty funny for her to walk in the house and greet her Daddy who's been missing her so much wearing this shirt. ;D)

Torry, you are too sweet! I would never have known you weren't feeling well (and in such incredible pain) and lacking so much sleep if you hadn't told me. You were the perfect hostess, as always, cooking us delicious food, exercising despite the pain, and talking with me even when you probably felt like doing nothing but curling up in a ball!
