Jeremy organized a 237th Marine Corps Birthday run as a way to celebrate the day and to help boost morale for his Marines in the maintenance department. You know, some esprit de corps and all that jazz. The plan was to run the Marine Corps flag around the base in Al Udeid in 2 mile laps for 23.7 hours. Well, when word got out, the event just exploded. He ended up including anyone who was interested and had as many as 12 marines running in formation throughout the day and night. He said that the other services were cheering, taking pictures, facing the colors as they ran by, honking horns, etc. He had also planned a mass run for the very last lap. He is guesstimating that 130 Marines showed up to run. It was loud. It was motivating. It was everything that he had wanted it to be.
The icing on the cake?
This picture.
Turns out that the event happened to occur at the same time that some BMX bikers had come to do a show for the troops. They posed the bike against the wall and snapped the picture as the small fire team ran by. Jeremy was a little bummed because most of the time it was a squad/platoon running the flag, but the picture made it to ESPN's website, so that's pretty cool!
