Welcome to New Bern, Random Pictures

New Bern has these really cool bear statues everywhere now.  They are all different and sponsored by various local businesses.  This one is "Barrister Bear".

'Tis good to move in the spring because your lovely southern belle neighbors will bring you bouquets of even more lovely hydrangea flowers...even if the flowers were just an excuse to gawk and get the dirt on us (and I'm not saying they were!), it was worth it!  This is one of my favorite types of flowers and they smell SOOO good!

Speaking of flowers I like, when I first pulled into the driveway, I saw a little tree in the front yard.  I looked at it, got all excited and thought that the leaves looked like a magnolia tree.  Just a few weeks later, I saw I was right!  YAY!  I LOVE magnolia trees too!  We only had this one bloom this year because it is but a baby tree, but maybe there will be more next year!

Marshall's hair, meet humidity.  Humidity, Marshall's hair.

Oh, HELLO, FIVE GUYS!  I know you WERE NOT here when we lived here before!  We stopped short of dancing a happy jig in their parking lot, but we were dancing in our seats.  This place is the home of the very best veggie sandwiches.  They skip the fake burger and grill the most wonderful veggies all on a toasted bun.  MMMMMM!!!

We were only here a few days when we had to go by the old Beaven Homestead.  It was a wonderful feeling that none of us looked at it and felt sad and like we wished we were still there.  This new neighborhood is just too convenient.  It would have been really hard to go back there without the Copas family right down the street.  We already feel their absence here pretty deep.  It would have been way worse to be right back where we all spent our time together.

The kids had a hard time adjusting to the humidity here in NC.  They were definitely feeling the heat compared to Yuma.  We would chuckle when people would ask us how we could stand the heat of the desert when we all know it is much more miserable here!

Da Meems, her crazy NC hair and her new friend.
(Note the old floor is still in place... see the red cooler where the refrigerator should be?  That WAS our refrigerator.  For months.  I started buying ice at all different places around town because I didn't want the guy at the Riverdale Fuel Mart to think I was hiding dead bodies somewhere)

How could you not love this face?
