A Day at the Aquarium

In the middle of all that renovation, when I could take it no longer, we closed up shop for a day and headed down to the coast to one of our favorite places, the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium.

On the way out the door, Amelia told me that she chose her jacket to match her shirt.
Well, thank goodness because we would hate to clash!

What's new at the aquarium since we were here last?
PENGUINS!
They are hosting a traveling exhibit of penguins this summer.
I'm glad we've seen them other places, because these guys were about as much fun as a box of rocks.  They were in the middle of molting, so apparently that makes them very lazy and grumpy.  They not only just stood there, most of them had their backs to us.  ;)  Poor ugly things.

Funny little desert rats needed sweatshirts.
In July.
In NC.

This has always been one of my favorite views in NC.
I love the marsh and the open space.

Amelia has been in love with this touch tank ever since she was old enough to reach out and grab something.  Even as a young toddler she had no fear and would try her hardest to catch a stingray with her pudgy little hands.  The funny thing was, they seemed to like her too.  I am certain that they would purposefully swim up to her.

It was so busy at the aquarium that we really didn't stay that long.
Between the penguins and it being tourist season in Carteret County, I think everyone was there that day.  We saw all of our old "friends" and then decided to head back home and return on a weekday afternoon during the school year.  That's the perfect time to go.  All the little kids are napping and all the big kids are in school.  ;)

We passed this car on our way to our car.
All of my kids are animal lovers, but Amelia decided that this car must belong to a "crazy animal lady".
Glad to know that she won't be on Animal Hoarders in the future.
