Unfortunately our time here in Yuma is winding to an end this summer. We're in the mode of trying to do all the local things we've had on our "to do" list since getting here. One of these was a visit to The Peanut Patch, a locally owned store full of everything peanut related! It used to be an actual peanut farm, but it turns out that peanut plants attract an insect called a white fly which kill green leafy plants. (Not good for an economy that heavily relies on supplying 90% of the COUNTRY and 75% of the WORLD with it's winter lettuce!) The farmers all got together and voted the peanut out of Yuma, but The Peanut Patch remains a reminder of what used to be.
Amelia sat up front so she could see and was then chosen to help make peanut butter!
Marshall didn't get to help make the peanut butter, but he did help eat it!

Funny girl!
After listening to the owner talk about the history of peanuts and The Peanut Patch in Yuma and learning about the peanut plants and equipment, we toured the rest of the store.
A great big 'ol slab of peanut brittle!
The kids thought the "Petting Cactus" in the gift shop was fun. A cactus you can touch without getting prickly little spines in your hand!
