The Station Library has been holding monthly Family Nights. March's program was entitled "Plant a Seed-Read!" Amelia attends the weekly Wednesday morning preschool program and Abby is at the library so much that all the librarians know her by first name and reading preferences. :) So you know that we were all on board with spending our evening learning about plants and making "chia pets".
Abby was only able to attend for the first half hour. Unfortunately Pathfinders is also on Tuesday nights, so Abby only gets to participate (in full pathfinder uniform) until she has to leave for that.
The librarian pulled out lots of gardening themed books for the big kids and she was even reading books in the corner to the little ones. Abby found some of her besties from the homeschool group to pal around with. ;)

Poor little Marshy wasn't feeling well this night so he pretty much sat his febrile self in the corner with a good book. Here he's doing his best to rally a smile... I was able to pull him away just long enough to plant his chia because I thought he would be sad later if I did it for him.
The girls started by decorating their cups with all kinds of crafting doo-dads and markers.

Amelia was pleased with this very Picasso like face for her chia. The artist in her says that it is a flamingo.
Step ONE: Add dirt....
Step TWO: Add grass seeds...

Step THREE: Water...

And VOILA! Instant fun!
