Palm Springs Air Museum

The day after we cooled down at Dairy Queen, we hopped in the car and headed west. Day 1 was spent in Palm Springs. Jeremy wanted to stop in and see all there was to be seen at their air museum. It also happened to be half way between home and our final destination... Los Angeles. This was "sort of" his excuse for stopping... You know, to break up the trip. :) He really didn't need to come up with excuses. We totally were on board!

When it's 110 degrees outside, you have to be careful because slapping someone a high five can be downright PAINFUL!

Marshall had a great time reading all the info sheets on the planes that caught his interest.

Abby liked these really old cars. It was cool to look inside them to see what cars of long ago looked like. No cd players, tv's or gps units, that's for sure!

Unfortunately while we where there, this big plane tried to eat Amelia. Fortunately, she's a fast runner.

Abby got in touch with her feminist side...

When the kiddo's bored of quietly looking at planes, we wandered over to the children's section that was perfect for keeping them occupied while Daddy had a great time.

They had lots of fun pretending to be the Red Baron...

Riding in old fire trucks...

and dressing up to fly military aircraft.

They had a variety of crafts out for them to do. There were parachutes and helicopters to make and just plain coloring sheets for the little kids to make.

This airplane was here for them to give a custom paint job to. They each had fun making sure their name was represented.

Upstairs were an aviation library and some flight simulators. The kids had fun flying the aircraft and shooting missles. It didn't take the volunteers long to figure out that Jeremy didn't need their help in figuring out what to do.

We were pretty excited (even though terribly hot and thirsty) to find this helicopter outside with the symbol for the 11th Cav, Jeremy's Dad's Army unit from Vietnam.

This MASH style tent was interesting to check out, but it was way too hot to stay in and play.

When we'd had our fill of old planes, we left the air museum and motored on to San Bernadino. We arrived at our hotel with the intention of checking in and cleaning up for dinner, but instead found out that they were without power. So we drove around looking for the Olive Garden that the hotel website promised was near by. We didn't find it, but we did find the yummiest Vietnamese food! Well, I had never had Vietnamese food before, so maybe not the yummiest VIETNAMESE food, but what we had was so good, I will be looking for these little culinary treasures when I travel!
