Wings over Wayne

After being rained out the weekend before in Cherry Point, we went to the airshow in Goldsboro, NC this past weekend at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. We had a great time and Jeremy and Marshall were able to do their "guy thing". I must admit that even we girly types had a great time. We were a bit concerned as the weather at our house was gorgeous and as we got closer to the airshow, it became more and more gray and cloudy. The clouds hung around until about 2pm, when the sun came out to bake us. We were more than happy for it to stay cloudy as long as it didn't rain or interfere with the flying. The acts were a lot of fun to watch and certainly kept your attention. There was a jet car that had a race against a plane, with speeds of up to 400 mph, the jet car went so fast you could barely see it go past you! A smokewriter drew a heart in the sky which Jeremy insists he had done just for me to wish me a Happy Mother's Day, but I have my suspicions! We perused the static displays with the kids climbing in helicopters, tanks, and huge cargo planes. When the sun did turn it on full force, we sought refuge under the wings of some mammoth jet.... You'll have to catch up with Jeremy to get all the specifics of the different vehicles... I can identify some of the jets that we see a lot, but there really was a lot of variety there and to be honest, it all looked the same to me! It really was quite amusing to see everyone huddled in what little shade was offered by jet wings. The girls both seemed to enjoy themselves though I could see their minds wandering a bit more than Marshall's. One of Marshall's favorite planes had a sharks face on the front. The highlight of the day was the Blue Angels. They are stationed out of Pensacola where Marshall was born, so I kind of feel like they are "his" jets. :) It was their first performance since they lost a jet at the beginning of the season. The show was fantastic and I could tell the kids were enthralled. Okay, the older two were. By that point we had worn Amelia out so much that she literally slept through the entire performance. We are an entire family of light sleepers, so that's quite the feat around here! The weather held off just until we were off base in a restaurant with lots of water and food on the way. That was when the sky just opened up and we were all so very thankful that we were no longer outside. Check back in a few days as we went strawberry picking today and I got a few cute shots while Amelia got a tummy ache!
