November 18th- "New" Hotel and our evening

In Surin we stayed in a hotel that called itself "New".  I'm thinking it lost something in the
translation.  While it certainly wasn't new, it was comfy, a bit quirky and came with it's
own lizard!  Thankfully it was a lizard that was happy to keep to itself.  I didn't realize at
the time that there would come a day where I'd be thankful for that.  HEHE!
Jeremy and I joked that this dripping blue pipe was the drainage from the hotel bathrooms.  ;)
We had 2 of these beds.  Jeremy and I took this one.  We had the kids lie sideways in the other.
The showers in Thailand were interesting.  The hot water heater is right in the unit.
It heats the water on demand.  In theory anyway.  We certainly had our share of
less than warm showers!  ;)  It took us 2 days to realize that at this particular hotel,
we seemed to be short circuiting the power our entire floor of the hotel by
attempting to run the shower and air conditioning at the same time.  OOPS!  ;)
It's a dial phone!
We neglected to get a picture of it, but the front desk had a REAL old-timey switchboard!
Our bathroom.  Notice the walls don't go to the ceiling.  Still better than the
room in San Diego with the all glass bathroom!  ;)  Note that there is not a
separate shower stall.  The shower is the white box above the toilet.  You just
have to make sure that you take the toilet paper out of the bathroom before you shower!
See!  It's the blue pipes!
If someone chose to peak above the wall and take your picture, there wasn't much you could do about it.  ;)
We had a balcony and the kids spent a fair amount of time out there.  They didn't want to miss a minute of the fun!  The hotel was right on a rather busy street, so they were able to see lots of special Elephant Round-Up weekend activities.  We could lay in our rooms and hear the elephants outside trumpeting.  So FUN!!!
The view from our room.  Can you tell how important elephants are to this town?
We decided to have dinner at the Thai restaurant right next to our hotel.
Shark fins, anyone?  We were careful not to let Marshall see this lest he boycott eating all together.
While we waited for our food, Ryan took the kids on a little walk to work out some of the wiggles.
Hmm... Laura and I chatting again.  :D

Thai for Pepsi...

The elephants would walk right up to our table.  The men were selling
sugar cane for you to feed them.
Talk about dinner and entertainment!
After dinner, we took a tuk tuk ride through town.
Bedtime snack?  Roti, of course!  There was a stand right on the block with our hotel.
VERY convenient!  And we made sure to make the best of it while we were in Surin!
