We had BIG plans for this weekend. (More on that later...) Part of our plan was to take Marshall fishing. He had been wanting to go for quite some time. Jeremy took him this week to purchase the 6 year old dream... A Star Wars Fishing Rod, complete with Clone Trooper tackle box. The bulk of our plans were ruined by a virus that decided that this would be a perfect weekend to take over our home. Having a new fishing pole and a styrofoam cup of worms in the living room and a canoe strapped to Daddy's car motivated us to push through and get this boy out to do what he's been waiting to do. 3 doses of Motrin and cough drops later, we were on our way to a nearby lake.

It was a beautiful day, a bit hot, but sunshine that couldn't be beat. We started the afternoon by taking a family "stroll" around the lake, enjoying the nature. There was a perfect breeze blowing. When the hunger pangs hit, we rowed into shore and enjoyed our lunch... banana bread, apples with caramel dipping sauce and snack mix.

After lunch we decided to try our hand at fishing. We started on the pier where the ground is a bit more solid and there was plenty of room. Our worms, well, lets just say that by the time they made it to the fish hook, they weren't feeling any pain. I don't think the fish cared any. Marshall got a nibble while on the pier but the fish got away. After a bit, Jeremy and Marshall took the canoe back out to try some more. They were heading in for a drink and Marshall tossed his line in and within 30 seconds was beginning the fight of his young life. All the while, he was yelling "I got a fish... I got a fish..." Sure enough, he did! With no help from dad he pulled it straight out of the water. They held it long enough to get some pictures and then sent it on it's way, a little scared, but a little wiser as well.

So we're back to our little infirmary, all 3 coughing febrile monsters, but one excited little hero in our midst.
