Jeremy is in Alaska

After over 24 hours of traveling and 3 layovers, Jeremy made it to Alaska safe and sound, but cold! He says that it was -16 yesterday, DURING THE DAY! Apparently it is so cold that you have to plug your car in at night so that the engine block doesn't freeze. BRRRR...... They also leave their vehicles running when they run into the store. Imagine that... a whole parking lot full of running cars. He said that they have gotten some snow, but it is obviously so cold there that the snow doesn't melt. The closest town to the air force base is named North Pole. The street lights are red and white striped like a candy cane would be and they still have Christmas lights all over the place. I'm curious as to how it looks in their much abbreviated summer. Daylight is extremely limited and he spends it in his meetings, so he's not gotten to explore too much. The kids are coping well with him being gone so soon. I was especially concerned about Marshall, but he's been counting down the days and seems to understand that we aren't in it for the long haul like Iraq.

I remember those days well living in Iceland as a child. We'd ice skate in the streets in the dark after school. I hope Jeremy at least sees a moose! Keep counting Marshall!
